Kenyan teams chase victory in Dar es Salaam as ECAHF championship gets underway

The regional championship, which runs until 4 December, has attract teams from Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar.

Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) champions National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) men and Nairobi Water women got their campaign for the East and Central Africa Handball Federation Senior Clubs Championships (ECAHF) title off to a flying start winning their opening matches at the Benjamin Mkapa indoor stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. 

NCPB picked a 42-21 against hosts Jeshi La Kujenga Taifa (JKT) while reigning ECAHF champions Nairobi Water dismissed JKT women 42-20 in the other match played on the opening day to gey their title defence off to a winning start. 

The men's competition has attracted six teams in Black Mamba, NCPB, Ngome Handball Club, JKT, defending champions Rwanda Police and Nyuki of Zanzibar. The women's competition is being played in a round robin format with NCPB, Nairobi Water, JKT, Ngome and Rwanda Women.

On Tuesday 30 November 2021, the Paul Pudo-coached millers, who are in pool A alongside JKT and Ngome HC are set to face Tanzania's Ngome with a win sealing top place in the pool.

The other Kenyan side, Black Mamba clash with Nyuki in their opening match of pool B that also has holders Rwanda Police. 

In their opening match, NCPB had veteran player Thodosia Sangoro top scoring at eight goals while William Malui contributed five same as Francis Sande and Bryan Wakukha. 

Meawhile Brenda Musambai scored nine for the women's defending champions Nairobi Water Queens as Brenda Ariviza and Gladys Chillo added eight a piece in the win.
